I’ll have to put the camera away
And learn how to live in the moment.
The ocean begs for me to come and play,
Making the day worthy to have been spent.
On my tiny craft, I’ll travel the waves.
With my curiosity to guide me,
I will explore all the shore’s hidden caves
And marvel at the sights I get to see.
I’ll have to commit it to memory
Because I do not have the convenience
Of snapping a picture of the beauty,
Making it become my experience.
We cannot rely on technology
If we desire to truly be free.

What the Well Has to Offer
I have not even had a single sip,
Yet it feels as if the well has run dry.
I search my radar for a single drip
Of water, but no matter how I try
The well will not give me its refreshing draught.
So I continue to drop the bucket,
Hoping this time I do not get the shaft
And I will find a vein that will fill it.
I am not trying to be too greedy.
I am looking for a change of pace.
I don’t want to come across too needy
When all it is is water that I chase.
Please make this trip to the well worth my time,
Wanting some lifeblood should not be a crime.
First World Problems
I stand on my mountain above the clouds
Looking down at you sulking in the rain.
Being so dry, I can’t help but feel proud
While trying hard not to laugh at your pain.
But I worked hard to climb to this top
While you chose the easy route down below,
So I wish that all your whining would stop
And allow for my happiness to grow.
You only care about where you are at
With only a glance at news from the other place.
Why should I care ’bout the problems you got
When the hot sun is shining on my face?
I forgot one thing in my life of ease
Before I burn, pass up the sunblock please.
The Day the Cable Went Down
How am I supposed to know what to think
When I live without any commercials?
It is the only way that I can link
My hard earned cash with my consuming goals.
Who will tell me which product is the best
When all of the celebrities have left me?
Will I be the judge of my own taste test
If they no longer show it on TV?
Won’t anybody tell me what to do?
Don’t expect me to make up my own mind.
There is a lot of info to sort through.
Making a choice has put me in a bind.
I never knew when my money was spent,
It was guided by your advertisement.
The Activist
My silky hair needs expensive shampoo
With fine ingredients such as palm oil.
I also need to fix things with strong glue
‘Cause it easier than having me toil.
I can get all my cheap electronics
From a local sweat shop deep in China;
I don’t think ’bout the darker specifics
If the workers have a ma or a pa.
But be sure not to hurt the elephants
Who get killed for their healing ivory.
Those creeps are nothing more than sycophants
Who don’t care ’bout this endangered species.
I will never be a contributor
‘Cause I live the life of a consumer.
An Air Travel Love Song
Make sure you get you place in the herd’s line
‘Cause there are places we need to take you.
We will plop some slop on a plate to dine,
So make sure to obey your cabin crew.
Take your seat in that tiny, little box,
And you do not have the right to complain.
Get some shut eye as the plane gently rocks,
But no one gets sleep that they can sustain.
If you feel you deserve entertainment,
Open the shade and look out your window.
Being so high, you will wish to repent,
So you don’t end up in the place down below.
There’s nothing like modern transportation,
A happy way to your destination.
Above the Tweets
Please do not feel pity for the hunchback
‘Cause he had the perfect view of beauty.
Even though companionship he did lack,
Which some think is how you find yourself free;
Instead, he got to look down on the crowd,
And judge them based on their humanity.
Something is not true ’cause you say it loud
But not always for that society.
From his perch on top of the cathedral,
He is free from the pain dealt by their words,
He does not need to be hurt by their ills,
Making all his friends from the carefree birds.
Don’t regret what it is you never knew;
Instead, sit back and enjoy the view.
Reunion
As the breeze blows over the patio
Allow me to refill your empty glass.
There is not a place where you need to go
And you should never let a moment pass.
You know you enjoy the conversation
As we let the time of the night tick by,
For our memories are the connection
Of where our relationship really lies.
Though it may be that only once a year
That our lives are able to intersect,
It is these little moments that appear
That move my heart with the greatest effect.
I want to thank you for the night’s meal,
Also the way the time makes me feel.
Laughter on the Outside
I have forgot what it means to be dry
Because I have lived in this rain too long.
I hope my personal weather will sigh,
Allowing the time with the sun the time to be strong.
Until then I will sit under this cloud
With my drenched clothes clinging to my body.
A fool in the rain can never be proud,
Punishment for never being naughty.
I will continue to wear my smile
‘Cause others depend on the attitude.
Dripping laughter will become my style,
Never expecting any platitude.
Will any ever understand my pain,
Just a wet man, standing in his own rain?
Running the Race
I have burned the candle down to the wick
And taken the summer to its limit.
In my memory, I want it to stick,
But there is so much I’m likely to forget.
Some say I should take it a little slow,
To savor for the sake of savoring,
But I have decided to go and go
In a frenzy that is unwavering.
But within the rush I have hit the wall.
I can no longer find the energy.
The excitement of life will never stall,
And will threaten to go on without me.
Do I always need to drive at a fast pace?
What is even the purpose of this race?
